Rodger refused to work as a war correspondent after 1945, having been among the first photojournalists entering the concentration camp at Bergen-Belsen. He was one of the founding members of Magnum Photos in 1947 and travelled and photographed African nations for more than 30 years. In 1913 Schweitzer arrived to Lambaréné, where he founded a hospital. Rodger photographed him during his daily morning tour.
