Italian surrealist film director and screenwriter Marco Ferreri was a well-established provocateur since the 1950s. In 1977 he did his first English language feature »Bye Bye Monkey«, with the original Italian title »Ciao Maschio« (Goodbye Masculinity).
With Gérard Depardieu and frequent Ferreri actor Marcello Mastroianni in the lead roles, Ferreri basically made a film about a man, his baby monkey, and the ruination of time on mankind, all taking place in a post-apocalypitc New York City.
