Around 80 years ago, this photograph was taken of a group of Japanese children singing as they walk in the darkness to keep »evil birds« away. After working for modern magazines in Tokyo, photographer Hiroshi Hamaya turned to rural coast of the Sea of Japan to document the strict working conditions and tradition-oriented way of life there.
