With their striking colours and clearly recognisable textures, Araki's close-ups of flowers seduce to touch them. For him, flowers are symbols of the feminine, the lizards - Jamorinksys - which are placed on them represent the masculine. In Araki's symbolism, however, Eros rarely exists without Thanatos: the condition of the dried reptile and the more or less advanced wilting of the flower refer to the ephemerality of all sensual pleasures.
