With their striking colours and clearly recognisable textures, Araki's close-ups of flowers seduce to touch them. For him, flowers are symbols of the feminine, while the lizards - Jamorinksys - which are placed on them represent the masculine. In Araki's symbolism, however, Eros rarely exists without Thanatos: the texture of the dried reptiles and the more or less advanced wilting of the flowers refer to the ephemerality of all sensual pleasures.
