In the 1930s couture designers experimented with new or unexpected fabrics. This evening gown and cape by Jeanne Lanvin were fashioned from white towelling and Huene’s photograph was published in Vogue with the caption: ‘Bath-towel into evening gown – Lanvin’s ingenious towelling dress’.
