The day after the opening, World Press Photo winner Chantal Pinzi will give a public talk offering insights into her photographic practice. Pinzi’s work moves between photojournalism, documentary photography and visual activism. Her projects often place women’s perspectives at their centre, including her World Press Photo Award-winning series Farīsāt: Gunpowder’s Daughters. The series explores the Moroccan equestrian tradition of Tbourida and the women who are fighting for their place in a tradition that, for centuries, was exclusively reserved for men.
Sport as a reflection of social power structures and as a potential catalyst for social change also plays a central role in other works by Pinzi. In her long-term project Shred the Patriarchy, she follows female skateboarders in Ethiopia, India and Morocco, for whom sport also represents a means of emancipation from familial and social constraints.
Pinzi’s work has been published internationally and presented at numerous festivals and in international competitions, including the Sony World Photography Awards, Xposure Festival, LensCulture, Helsinki Photo Festival and PhotoEspaña. Born in Italy in 1996, the photographer has been based in Berlin for around ten years and is represented by Panos Pictures.
