DEIX GOES PARALLEL VIENNA
Galerie OstLicht is delighted to be represented at PARALLEL VIENNA from 21 to 22 September 2024 with works by the exceptional artist Manfred Deix. The special show will feature rarities and beloved classics from the pen of the caricaturist, graphic artist and author, whose incomparable ability was to capture the absurdities of society with sharp wit in impressive images.
The works on display include early drawings and watercolours from Richard ‘Mörtel’ Lugner to Hans Krankl and the typical and unique caricatures of ‘Mr and Mrs Austrian’. All works can be purchased at the art fair on the Otto Wagner site as well as via the OstLicht online shop.
The characters created by the gifted observer Manfred Deix have even made it into the Duden dictionary and are still regarded today as an exceptionally distinctive depiction of the abysses and idiosyncrasies of the Austrian soul. The continued relevance of his criticism of toxic masculinity rituals, xenophobia, sexism, bigotry, corruption and philistinism shows just how much the spirit of Deix, who died in 2016, lives on.
