Nobuyoshi Araki (*1940)
Untitled, Japan, 1993
From the series »Erotos«
With his series »Erotos«, also published as a book, controversial photographer Nobuyoshi Araki makes a radical departure from his usual sexed-up portraits and cityscapes. Arrestingly primal close-ups of parts of the body as well as pipes, fruit, cracks in the sidewalk, flowers, delve deep into the erotic subconscious. Most of his subjects are (or at least seem to be) glossy and shown against a black, that can't be any stronger.
