Nobuyoshi Araki (*1940)
Untitled, Japan, 1993
From the series »Erotos«
»Erotos« is praised by critics as one of the most extraordinary series resp. book projects by the legendary photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. In his repertoire of motifs, in his narrative mode, and in his photographic composition, he deviates significantly from his usual canon. In high-contrast close-ups of captivating sharpness, which he achieves through flashed macro photography, he primarily shows body parts as well as shining pipes, fruits, sidewalk cracks, or flowers. »Erotos« plunges deep into the erotic subconscious.
