Parallel Vienna 2024

MANFRED DEIX

The OstLicht Gallery is pleased to present works by the exceptional artist Manfred Deix at PARALLEL VIENNA from September 11 to 15, 2024. The special exhibition will showcase rarities and beloved classics by the caricaturist, graphic artist, and author, whose unparalleled ability to capture the absurdities of society with sharp wit in impressive images is still celebrated today. Among the works presented are early drawings and watercolors of Richard "Mörtel" Lugner and Hans Krankl, as well as the typical and unique caricatures of "Mr. and Mrs. Austrian." All works can be purchased at the art fair on the Otto-Wagner site as well as through the OstLicht online shop.

"I love to draw, I draw often, because drawing brings me joy. I draw beautifully, I love to draw, and often hit the nail on the head. People are very happy when they see my drawings – because: exciting, educational, and interesting are drawings from Deix's hand." – Manfred Deix, 1990

The figures of the gifted observer Manfred Deix have made it into the Duden and are still considered an extraordinarily pronounced portrayal of the depths and peculiarities of the Austrian soul. The continued relevance of his critique of toxic masculinity rituals, xenophobia, sexism, bigotry, corruption, and petty bourgeois mentality shows how the spirit of Deix, who passed away in 2016, continues to live on.
