Bruce Davidson (*1933)
Underground, London, ca. 1960
From the series »England/Scotland«
Davidson became a member of the renowned Magnum agency as a young photographer. After creating his legendary series in the milieus of an American travelling circus, a teenage gang in Brooklyn and on the set of »The Misfits«, he travelled to England and Scotland for several months. In addition to poetic landscapes and atmospheric street photographs, he took this shot in the London Underground, which foreshadows Davidson's later series »Subway«, in which he documented the violence and contradictions in the New York underground of the 1980s in colour photography.
