Marialba Russo (*1947)
Calabria, Italy, 1982
Marialba Russo studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In the late 1970s she turned to photography, focusing on religious representations and folk festivals in central and southern Italy. Between 1972 and 1976 she worked with the National Museum of Folk Art and Traditions in Rome. Her photographs were published in Vogue Italia and other international magazines. In independent projects, she often deals with gender-political and ideological issues. Towards the end of the millennium, she found a more intimate and analytical approach in her photographic work, with landscape often standing as a metaphor for the inner perception of time.
