Pierre Houcmant was a Belgian photographer, he taught photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège and is generally known for his portraits of writers. He had also developed a whole research work on the body, the forms, the nude, influenced by his travels, photographers such as Hubert Grooteclaes or Josef Sudek.
His classic nude study shows a female body bent backwards, strechting in tension. A play of shadow and light, that centers the female shapes of the model in this well-balanced photograph.
