Franz Hubmann, known as »the Austrian Cartier-Bresson«, documented people, landscape and culture for decades. A constant of his work, for which he remained less known than for his photojournalistic photo essays, was his interest in the Waldviertel.
With an alert eye and a great love for this area, he photographed the archaic woodland on the Austrian border, which he himself described as his »formative soul landscape«. Hubmann captures the unique beauty and quiet charm of the Waldviertel in atmospheric pictures.
