Thomas Hoepker (1936 – 2024)
Elfie »Toxi« Fiegert and her groom Christopher Ikpeamana Nwako, Germany, Munich, English Garden, 1969
To the Stern report »Einen Deutschen hätte ich nie geheiratet« (I would never have married a German)
Hoepker photographed the actress Elfie Fiegert with her spouse for the reportage »I would never have married a German« (published in the magazine »stern«, no. 34, Hamburg 1969, pp. 16-19). Fiegert was a so-called occupation child of the post-war period, who was exposed to particular social pressure due to her outward identifiability and the lingering effects of Nazi racial ideology. Her father - a black GI and student - was »unexpectedly« sent to Korea, as was usual in such cases. Her mother, a doctor from Freising who later emigrated to the USA, placed the child in the care of a children's home. She was eventually adopted by the Fiegert couple, originally from Silesia.
