Huene admired Alix, who later designed under the name Madame Grès, and described her as ‘a woman who had a great gift of draping clothes in the manner of Greek sculpture, classical, and regal.’ Here, the lighting emphasises the texture of Alix’s gold and black ciré satin dress, pressed and embossed to resemble leather.
