Michail Michailov (*1978)
Giraffe, Vienna, 2007
From the series »Die Arbeit«
The artist uses everyday life and the environment he finds himself in, as inspiration and canvas. While working in a temporary job as a cleaner in a rich household, he developed the project with Ekaterina Radeva. In presence of the owners they obediently did the various household chores they were paid for. At the same they secretly made the house their own by committing small artistic acts druing their monotonous cleaning duties, what leads the stereotype of an emigrant doing a cleaning job to absurdity. In a performative experiment furniture and fixtures, as well as clothes and exotic decoration of the bourgeois household are transformed into toys, what gives them new and surprising meanings.
