Thomas Herbrich (*1955)
The Bathing Sea Horse, Germany, Düsseldorf, 2002
A commission for an Italian furniture company inspired Herbrich to create this motif. In the advertising campaign there was, for example, a living room in a badger's den or a bedroom in a tree cave; in the shell there was originally a kitchen. The picture was taken in Herbrich's studio, his model builder Nils Carstensen built the beach floor in so-called »forced depth«, i.e. with proportions becoming increasingly dense towards the back. The snail shell comes from the collection of the Düsseldorf Aquazoo and is over 100 years old. In the image processing, only the opening was enlarged to have more space for the story inside.
