Helene Thimig (1889-1974) in the role of Iphigenia in the play of the same name by J.W. von Goethe, one of the actress's dream characters in classical drama. Contemporary critics described Thimig's playing as a mixture of »severity and childlike-ness«.
Trude Fleischmann photographed the celebrated star many times and also illustrated a book about the actor dynasty of the Thimigs. In this photograph, which was distributed in postcard-size, her modern design principles are particularly evident in the closed silhouette emphasizing the picture's diagonal.
