Takeuchi Toshinobu, Autumn mood, ca. 2000

Takeuchi Toshinobu (1943-2022) roamed every corner of Japan from north to south, exploring the infinite diversity of his homeland with his camera and capturing it in pictures. He was one of the leading landscape photographers of his country.

 

In addition to nature and the forces of nature in all their powerful and pictorial intensity, the change of the seasons - particularly evident in Japan - is also at the centre of his work. Guided by his striving for harmonious coexistence with nature, he was therefore always on the lookout for the original beauty of Japan, even in the landscape shaped by man. A natural beauty that, due to the constant changes in nature, often only reveals itself to the eye of the beholder for a few seconds.

 

His knowledge of the sometimes irretrievable magic of such moments was also passed on as a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts in Tokyo, the Japan Photo-Art College and the Institute of Modern Photography.
